Jul 20, 2015 As Mike discussed in a previous post, IBM has announced that they have no plans to support IBM i Access for Windows clients beyond Windows 8.1.That announcement, along with the upcoming July release of Microsoft Windows 10, has many organizations considering a move to the next Windows connectivity solution: IBM i Access Client Solutions. Well, the original question was 'How do I pin IBM i Access Client Solutions to the taskbar?' And it does work for that. When I right click the icon in the task bar, I get a pop up menu that includes the session.hod file which I click on to start a 5250 session, so it takes an extra click to start a session that way.

IBM i Access Client Solutions uses the same IBM i host servers as the other IBM i Access Family products and requires the same IBM i Access Family license (XW1) in order to use the 5250 emulation and Data Transfer features.
An IBM i Access Family license is required to use 5250 and Data Transfer.

Description
IBM i Access for Windows delivers TCP/IP connectivity to users running a variety of Microsoft® Windows® operating systems. IBM i Access for Windows offers an all-inclusive client solution for accessing and using resources from your Windows desktop. It includes 5250 emulation, access to DB2 Universal Database® (UDB) for IBM i through its Data Transfer, and utilizes IBM i NetServer for working with the IBM i Integrated File System and printers. It also has a variety of middleware for using and developing client applications to access IBM i resources; andNavigator for i, the i5/OS GUI, for administering your IBM i.
Planning
IBM i Access for Windows will not be refreshed for IBM i release 7.2 or beyond. IBM i Access for Windows 7.1 is the most current version available.
IBM does not plan to support IBM i Access for Windows on operating systems beyond Windows 8.1. For additional information see supportedWindows operating systemsandEnd-of-Serviceplans.
The replacement product is IBM i Access Client Solutions, which includes 5250 emulation, data transfer, printer output, console support, and more.
